Cacace vs Wood: All the Juicy Details for Saturday's Nottingham Showdown

God. I've been counting down the days for this one! Leigh Wood finally steps back into the ring after what feels like forever (18 months to be exact), and I'm buzzing to see what he brings against Cacace. My boxing buddy Dave bet me £50 that Wood doesn't make it past round 8 - challenge accepted, mate.

Nottingham's gonna be absolutely electric this weekend. There's something special about hometown fights that just hits different, isn't there? The roar when Wood walks out will probably shake teh foundations of the arena.

Why This Fight Has Me Losing Sleep

Let's be real. Wood hasn't fought since beating Warrington back in October 2023. That's a loooong time to be away from competitive action. Injuries are cruel like that.

Meanwhile, Cacace (or "The Apache" as he's known) has been busy cementing himself as one of the super-featherweight division's most dangerous men. Those wins against Cordina and Warrington last year were seriously impressive - I was at the Warrington fight and nearly spilled my £7 pint when Cacace landed that monster shot in the 7th.

The Elephant in the Room

Some controversy here, folks.

Cacace gave up his IBF title to fight Wood instead of facing mandatory challenger Eduardo Nunez. Bit of a dodgy move? Perhaps. But when Cacace was questioned about it, he didn't mince his words: "I'm 36 with three kids. The money was 100% better. Call me a duck, call me whatever you want. I don't give a s***."

Can't really argue with that level of honesty.

When Can You Watch This Beauty?

Saturday, May 10th is the date you need in your calendar. The action kicks off at 7pm at Nottingham Arena, with main event ring walks expected around 10pm.

I've been to this arena three times before - acoustics are fantastic but the beer queues... nightmare. Get there early if you're attending!

Viewing Options (Or How to Avoid Dodgy Streams)

DAZN has exclusive rights to this one. If you've already got it as part of your TV package, you're sorted. Otherwise, you can stream it through their website or app.

Price-wise, you're looking at £119.99 for an annual subscription (works out at just under a tenner a month), £14.99 monthly, or £24.99 for their flexible pass that you can cancel whenever.

Back in 2022, I tried sharing a DAZN account with my brother-in-law... they caught us within a week. Lesson learned!

The Undercard That Actually Doesn't Suck

Liam Davies vs Kurt Walker is worth the price alone. Davies moving up in weight against an Irish Olympian? Yes please.

The full lineup includes:

- Anthony Cacace vs Leigh Wood (IBO super-featherweight title)
- Liam Davies vs Kurt Walker (featherweight)
- Ezra Taylor vs Troy Jones (light heavyweight)
- Owen Cooper vs Chris Congo (welterweight)
- Sam Noakes vs Patrik Balaz (super lightweight)
- Lewis Williams vs Viktar Chvarkou (heavyweight)
- Huey Malone vs Jakub Laskowski (super lightweight)
- Charlie Senior vs Cesar Paredes (featherweight)
- Nico Leivars vs Darwing Martinez (featherweight)
- Joe Copper vs Dmitri Protkunas (middleweight)
- Joe Tyers vs Mario Portillo (lightweight)
- Harris Akbar vs Octavian Gratii (super welterweight)

What's Next for the Winner?

Unification fights are being whispered about. And Wood (massive Forest fan, by the way) has been vocal about wanting to fight at the City Ground.

I bumped into Wood's trainer at a coffee shop last week - he looked exhausted but confident. His exact words: "This camp's been different. You'll see."

The Fight Talk

Wood seems cool as a cucumber, telling The Ring: "Whichever way you want it. If everything's going my way, I'll get the job done. If things aren't going my way, guess what? I'll get the job done."

That's the kind of quiet confidence that makes me think this might not be the walkover for Cacace that the bookies are suggesting. I've seen Wood pull victory from the jaws of defeat before (remember that Conlan fight? I still have nightmares).

My prediction? Wood by split decision after weathering an early storm. Adn I'm putting my money where my mouth is - £40 on it.

See you all on fight night.
