Ryan Garcia Itching to Smack Conor Benn Around After Eubank Jr. Beatdown

Holy crap, did you see that Eubank-Benn fight? Absolute madness at Tottenham. I was texting my cousin the whole time, nearly dropped my phone in my beer when Eubank landed that uppercut in the 4th.

Anyway, Ryan Garcia isn't letting that Benn feud die anytime soon. Nope. The 26-year-old is practically begging to get his hands on Conor after their little red carpet spat in London a few months back.

Listen to the Summary

That Awkward Moment When...

Remember when Garcia and Benn nearly came to blows at teh Ring Magazine event? I was actually supposed to be there covering it for another outlet, but my flight got delayed and I missed the whole damn thing. Typical.

Garcia told The Sun he's ready to settle things in the ring: "I wouldn't mind fighting Conor Benn, that would be a lovely fight for me. Obviously he had a war with Chris Eubank. I don't know if they're gonna do a rematch but if that makes sense to my team and everybody else, let's run it. We can do it."

Let's run it.

Family Drama That Makes Thanksgiving Look Tame

The whole Eubank-Benn saga is like a boxing soap opera that's been running since the 90s. Their dads fought twice back when I was still wearing diapers - Eubank Sr. won the first one in 1990, then they drew in '93. Now the sons are carrying on the tradition while the old men watch from ringside.

Garcia seems genuinely moved by the father-son dynamic. "It's awesome, it really shows that connection between father and son, especially as a boxing duo," he said. "It really has a special energy towards it, especially in boxing. Nowhere else is that like that because you're watching your son get in the ring and fighting, it's crazy."

His own dad, Henry, works his corner too. Makes me think about my relationship with my old man... we can barely agree on what to watch on Netflix.

Wait, Didn't Both These Guys Fail Drug Tests?

OK so here's where things get awkward. Both fighters have some pharmaceutical baggage.

Benn tested positive for clomifene (a testosterone booster) back in 2022, which torpedoed his first planned fight with Eubank Jr. But instead of taking a ban, he fought it tooth and nail, took his talents to America for a couple of wins, and eventually UKAD dropped the case.

Garcia, meanwhile, had his victory over Devin Haney stripped after testing positive for ostarine (helps with muscle growth). Unlike Benn, Garcia just took his one-year ban and moved on.

"Well, I mean, what did he get out of that? People still think he cheated," Garcia said about Benn's approach. "I'll take the ban for a year and that keeps it moving fast. Everybody knows that I didn't take it."

Do we though? Do we really?

From Hotel Trashing to Times Square

Garcia went through some seriously dark times after the Haney fight. Dude was arrested last June for causing $15K worth of damage to an LA hotel room. I've had some wild nights, but never "$15,000 of damage" wild. Poor housekeeping staff.

But he seems to have turned things around. "I may have been acting crazy last time around but I was still feeling good pretty physically. But for me this time around I feel good both, mentally and physically."

He's fighting Rolando Romero on Friday in Times Square. Yes, actual Times Square. Like, outside. In New York. In September. Weather forecast says 68 degrees with a chance of right hooks.

I've got $50 on Garcia by KO in round 7. My editor thinks I'm crazy, but what does he know? He picked Jake Paul over Mike Tyson.

So Will Garcia vs Benn Actually Happen?

Listen. The boxing world is like a high school cafeteria with punching. Everyone's talking trash until contracts get signed. Garcia clearly wants the smoke with Benn, adn Benn might need a rebound fight after Eubank Jr. demolished him.

Would I watch it? Absolutely. Will it happen? Who knows. Boxing promoters change their minds faster than I change my Netflix password.

One thing's for sure though - neither of these guys is gonna back down from a grudge match. Too much pride. Too much money on the line.

And honestly... that's exactly why we love this ridiculous sport.
