That Time Luke Littler Won £30K and Got... Biscuits?

Look, I've covered some weird prize ceremonies in my time, but this one takes the cake. Or should I say... takes the biscuit?

Luke Littler just wrapped up his fourth European Tour win at the Flanders Trophy in Antwerp last Sunday. The kid's absolutely on fire this year - seven titles in 2025 alone. But here's where it gets ridiculous: alongside his £30,000 prize money and what honestly looked like a trophy from a charity shop, they handed him a massive hamper stuffed with Belgian biscuits and sweets.

I mean, come on.

When September Becomes Your Personal Hell

The 18-year-old world champion isn't complaining though. He knows what's coming next, and it's brutal. "This is it now, the back end of the year," Littler said after beating Josh Rock in teh final. "From now it's four to five weeks of back-to-back-to-back. Euro Tour, World Series finals and back to the Euro Tour."

Then he dropped this gem: "September and October are the craziest months in the calendar. Us players know how to deal with it."

God, I remember being 18 and thinking I could handle anything. Fair play to him though - the schedule really is insane.

Belgium Loves Him (Germany... Not So Much)

Here's something interesting I picked up on. Littler's made no secret about his feelings toward playing in Germany - basically can't stand it. But Belgium? That's his sweet spot. This was his third title there in just two seasons, and you could tell he was genuinely buzzing about the crowd support.

"I love the crowds here, they love me, I love them," he said. Classic Luke - straight to the point.

Although he did admit the Belgian fans got a bit fickle during the match: "A bit through the game they wanted Josh to win. As soon as I came back I knew they'd have to pick and choose which one they wanted to support. I just had to crawl back from 4-1 down."

Rock's Accidental Brilliance

Speaking of Josh Rock - poor guy hit what might be the most accidentally perfect shot I've ever witnessed. A stunning 161 to save the match, except... he thought he was going for 124.

His reaction afterward was priceless: "I think the 161 was a fluke because I thought it was a 124, I looked at his score instead of my score. That's why I stood back before it went in!"

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, right? Though in this case, it still wasn't enough.

These two have been putting on absolute clinics lately. Just over a month ago they played that semi-final at the World Matchplay that had everyone talking - the one with the most perfect leg of darts in TV history. Now they're at it again, trading haymakers like heavyweight boxers.

Rock summed it up perfectly: "When you go to a last leg decider with the world champion, you have to give it your all. Unfortunately I didn't do that but we move on."

Mature words from someone who just watched £30,000 adn a hamper of biscuits slip through his fingers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you recommend some fun dart games for parties?

Absolutely! Darts doesn't have to be all about 501 and cricket. For parties, you want games that keep everyone involved, accommodate different skill levels, and create some friendly competition.

What's the standard height for hanging a dartboard?

The standard height for a dartboard is 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm) from the floor to the bullseye. This measurement is official across professional darts organizations worldwide, including the PDC and BDO. It's designed to create a fair playing field for players of different heights.

My darts keep bouncing out of the board. What am I doing wrong?

Bounce-outs are incredibly frustrating, but they're usually caused by one of a few common issues. First, check your dartboard—if it's old and dried out, even the best throws will struggle to stick. Quality sisal boards should last years, but cheaper paper-wound boards harden quickly. If you can press your thumbnail into the board and it doesn't leave a small indent, it's too hard.

What's the difference between steel tip and soft tip darts?

Steel tip and soft tip darts represent two distinct branches of the sport, each with their own equipment, venues, and sometimes even scoring systems. The most obvious difference is in the point: steel tips have metal points for traditional bristle boards, while soft tips use flexible plastic points for electronic boards.

I keep hitting 5s and 1s when aiming for 20s. How do I fix this?

This is probably the most common frustration in darts—those dreaded 5s and 1s when you're aiming for the 20 segment! The good news is that this specific problem usually stems from a few identifiable issues.

What are "flights" and "stems" and do they really matter?

Flights and stems (also called shafts) are the components that stabilize your dart during flight, and yes, they absolutely matter—though perhaps not in the way beginners often think.

The official height for a dartboard is 5 feet 8 inches from the floor to the bullseye. The throwing line (oche) should be 7 feet 9¼ inches from the face of the board. I used to have mine hung too low and wondered why my game never improved at the pub! Measuring tape is your friend here.
