Holy crap, I never thought I'd be writing this story when I woke up this morning. The racing world might be in for one hell of a surprise—and I'm still processing it myself.
MICK SCHUMACHER, yes, THE Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary Michael, is apparently having secret conversations about returning to Formula One. This is happening right now during teh Miami Grand Prix weekend, when everyone's attention is supposedly focused on the current grid battle.
The Schumacher Legacy Continues?
The 26-year-old, who's currently racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Alpine, hasn't been in an F1 race seat since his Haas days (2021-2022). Remember those? Not exactly the dream start to a career when your last name carries THAT much weight.
I actually saw Mick at a paddock event last year. Poor kid looked like he was carrying the weight of motorsport history on his shoulders.

From Reserve to Return
Since losing his Haas seat, Schumacher's been hanging around F1 as a reserve driver for both Mercedes and McLaren. Basically the equivalent of being the understudy in a Broadway show—always ready, rarely called upon.
But now? Everything might change.
Wait... Cadillac in F1?!
This is where things get interesting. Cadillac—yes, the American luxury car brand—is jumping into the F1 pool from 2026. They held some fancy branding event during the Miami GP weekend that was supposedly just about showing off logos and corporate speak. According to Bild (the German publication that somehow always gets Schumacher family scoops), they were actually using this as cover to court Mick for a driving seat.
I spent $300 on Miami GP tickets last year and saw absolutely nothing this interesting.

The American Dream Team
Word is Cadillac has already made moves to snag Sergio Perez (currently with Red Bull) and now wants Schumacher as his teammate. It's a smart play when you think about it. Back in 2018, I interviewed an American motorsport marketing exec who told me, "The Schumacher name still sells merchandise in the US like you wouldn't believe." Guess Cadillac got the same memo.
They're looking at Mick because he's got that perfect combo—young enough to have potential but experienced enough to know how F1 works. Plus, that last name... gold for marketing.
The Other Guy
There's a wrinkle though. Cadillac apparently had their eyes on IndyCar driver Colton Herta (he's 25) as their American representative. My friend who covers IndyCar texted me last night: "Herta to F1 rumors again? Already updating my resume for when hell freezes over."
The issue? Herta doesn't have a super license. He needs to finish fourth in IndyCar this season to qualify.

He's currently eighth.
And from what I've heard through the grapevine, he's not even sure he wants to make the jump to F1 anyway. Can't blame him after seeing how other IndyCar-to-F1 transitions have gone... (looking at you, Michael Andretti's failed team bid).
So... is this actually happening?
Listen. The F1 rumor mill churns out more fiction than a publishing house. But this one has legs. Cadillac needs names that resonate, Mick needs a way back in, and the timing works with their 2026 entry.
I'll be watching this one closely. And probably eating my words if it falls through.
God. Imagine Michael's pride if this happens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Formula 1 vehicles refuel while racing?
As of the current regulations, mid-race refueling is banned in Formula 1. This rule is in place since 2010 to improve safety, and reduce costs. The cars must now start the race with sufficient fuel to finish the race. This adds a strategic element, where teams have to balance fuel weight and speed against efficiency.
What is the job of a Formula 1 race engine?
A Formula 1 race engineer is pivotal in managing various aspects of the car and driver performance throughout a race weekend. They keep in constant communication with drivers to give them important information and updates on the strategy, as well as liaising back with the team for real-time decision making. The race engineers make critical decisions regarding tire changes and car adjustments. They also decide on race tactics.
How do drivers qualify for a Formula 1 race?
The Formula 1 race's qualifying is done through a knockout format the day of the race. It's divided into three segments: Q1, Q2, Q3. All drivers start in Q1 and are eliminated after five of the slower cars. The top 15 cars then move to Q2, and another five are removed. The top 10 proceed to Q3, where they compete to secure pole position and determine the starting order for the first 10 positions on the grid.
