Cherries to reclaim Dean Court as Foley announces MASSIVE stadium expansion plans

I've been a Bournemouth supporter since the dark days. Remember when we were nearly relegated to the Conference? God, those were terrifying times. So hearing that Bill Foley is buying back our stadium after that desperate sale in 2005 feels like closing a painful chapter in our club's history.

Back when we were drowning in League One debt, the club had to flog Dean Court to Structadene for a measly £3.5m. Felt like selling your grandmother's jewelry to pay the electric bill. Necessary but heartbreaking.

From smallest to... well, still not massive, but OURS

The Vitality is currently a postage stamp compared to other Premier League grounds. At just 11,307 seats, we're nearly 6,000 seats smaller than even Brentford's stadium. I've missed more matches than I care to admit because tickets are like gold dust.

My mate Dave has been on teh waiting list for three seasons now. His response when I texted him about the expansion plans: "About bloody time!"

Foley dropped the bombshell during the opening of our fancy new £40m Performance Centre (which is absolutely gorgeous, by the way).

What's actually happening then?

According to our American billionaire owner, they've "come to terms on the acquisition" of the stadium and will be closing the deal soon. Translation: we're buying our home back!

But that's just the appetizer. The main course is a massive expansion that would take us to 20,000 seats within two and a half years. And there's even dessert - a potential further increase to 23,000 seats if things go well.

No more exile for the 15,000 fans currently languishing on waiting lists.

Wait... couldn't we just build a shiny new stadium somewhere?

Apparently they considered it. Foley admitted they looked at building from scratch elsewhere, but concluded it would take "five or six years" to complete.

Listen. I've seen enough stadium promises fall apart over the years to appreciate this pragmatic approach. Remember Portsmouth's grand plans before their financial implosion? Poor Pompey.

The renovation will happen without disrupting matches or displacing season ticket holders. Which is... honestly impressive if they can pull it off.

The Foley Effect

Since the American took over, it's been a whirlwind of investment. First the new Performance Centre (which looks like something Man City would build), now buying back our stadium AND expanding it.

I spent £450 on my season ticket last year and wondered if I was being taken for a ride. Not feeling so skeptical now.

This feels different from previous ownership promises. There's actual money being spent, actual plans being filed.

The stadium will apparently be "beautiful" according to Foley. I'm just happy if the toilets don't overflow when more than 12 people use them simultaneously (which happened during the Liverpool match in 2019... embarrassing).

The emotional homecoming nobody expected

For those who don't follow the Cherries, this might seem like routine business news. It's not.

This is about reclaiming a piece of our soul that we had to pawn during desperate times.

And I'm not crying, you're crying.

Well, maybe I am a little. But only because I've waited 19 years to hear this news.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear my athletic gear or do I have to wear football-specific apparel?

Although you can technically play football with any athletic clothing, it is recommended that you wear football-specific apparel as they are designed to improve performance and comfort. Jerseys, shorts, and other clothing are often made of lightweight and breathable materials to allow optimal airflow. This reduces overheating, sweat, and heat. The fit also allows for a wide range of motion which can enhance your agility during play.

Can the choice of socks impact a football player's performance?

Absolutely. Football socks support and protect the player's toes during intense gameplay. They keep the shinguards in place and prevent blisters through friction reduction. They also cushion the feet. The right pair of socks can enhance a football player's comfort and indirectly affect their performance.

What are the best gloves to protect and grip goalkeepers?

Goalkeeper gloves that have a latex-coated palm provide the best grip for different playing conditions. The latex density and thickness can be varied to balance grip with durability. Gloves equipped with finger protection, including spines or stiffening elements, can reduce the risk of hyperextension injury to the fingers. Good gloves must also fit and be comfortable to allow the goalkeepers to perform their best.

How do I ensure the proper fit for my football boots?

For a proper fit, your football boots should be snug, but not too tight. This will allow for movement, without allowing the foot to slide inside the boot. The space between your toes, and the front of your boot should be approximately a thumb-width to prevent the toes from being crammed in when running or kicking. You should also consider your foot width and choose a boot that fits narrow or wide feet. To ensure a perfect fit, always try boots on with football socks.

What are the essential pieces of equipment needed for playing football?

The basic equipment required for playing football includes a jersey or shirt, shorts, stockings, shin guards, and cleats or football boots. Goalkeepers typically require additional gear such as specialized gloves and sometimes padded clothing to protect them during dives and jumps. For safety reasons and to ensure that the rules are followed, it is important for players to dress appropriately.
