Football's Exploding Market Values: Yamal Doubles While Arsenal's Lewis-Skelly Goes Absolutely Bonkers

Holy crap, what a season it's been for some of these young ballers. I've been tracking player valuations since my editor challenged me to predict the "next big thing" last summer (I said Musiala... shows what I know), and the numbers we're seeing now are absolutely mind-blowing.

Listen to the Content

Barcelona's Teenage Phenomenon Is Just Ridiculous

Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - has seen their market value skyrocket quite like Lamine Yamal this season. The Barcelona wonderkid has literally doubled his worth since July 1st, jumping from £76.5m to a staggering £153m.

I watched him destroy Inter in that Champions League semi-final first leg and honestly felt like I was witnessing something historic. The kid is 17 years old. SEVENTEEN! When I was 17, I was struggling to grow facial hair and here's Yamal casually becoming the third most valuable footballer on the planet.

That £76.5m increase is £30m more than his nearest competitor. Absolutely mental.

Wait... Who The Hell Is Omar Marmoush?

Second on the list is Manchester City's January signing Omar Marmoush. I'll admit, I had to Google him when City first announced the deal (football journalist of the year right here, folks).

His value has exploded by 241% since July - from £19m to £64m. That's a £45m increase for a player many casual fans wouldn't recognize if he sat next to them on the bus.

Cole Palmer ranks third with a £43m rise to £111m total. Remember when Chelsea paid £40m for him and everyone thought they were mad? Yeah, about that...

Arsenal's Academy Is Basically A Money Printer

Arsenal fans won't shut up about their youth academy these days. And honestly? Fair enough.

Ethan Nwaneri has seen his value jump by an insane 587.5% to £46.7m after becoming a first-team regular. The kid scored that worldie against PSV and suddenly everyone's talking about him like he's the next Fabregas.

But the real story at Arsenal is Myles Lewis-Skelly.

This time last year I watched him in an U21 game and thought "decent player, nothing special." Shows what I know. His market value has increased by 1,300% - from £1.7m to £23.8m. That's FOURTEEN TIMES his original worth!

I texted my Arsenal-supporting mate about this and his response: "told you so since 2022, you never listen."

The Portuguese Teenager Chelsea Are Throwing Money At

Geovany Quenda didn't even have a market value on July 1st. Now he's worth over £38m.

Chelsea are paying around £42m for him, which seemed absurd to me until I actually watched some Sporting matches. The kid is electric. Reminds me of a young Hazard with how he glides past defenders.

Still... £42m for a teenager. The transfer market has lost its damn mind.

Liverpool Finally Got One Right

After years of watching Liverpool waste money on midfielders who couldn't cut it (still having nightmares about that 2022/23 season), Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation under Slot.

His value has doubled from £30m to £60m. I spent three hours last weekend watching Liverpool midfield compilations trying to figure out what changed with him. Still haven't figured it out, but the transformation is remarkable.

Back in 2023, I wrote him off completely after that disastrous Bayern spell. Feels stupid now.

The One That Got Away

Hugo Ekitike's £30m value increase (now worth £47m) has Arsenal fans in my mentions every time he scores. They were heavily linked with him last summer but went for another target instead.

I watched him demolish Dortmund's defense last month... the movement, the finishing, the hold-up play. Frankfurt have struck gold with this kid.

Villa's Morgan Rogers has also jumped £30m to £42.5m. Not bad for a player who was at Middlesbrough in the Championship last season.

Just Missing The Cut

The new Man City defender with teh impossible name - Abdukodir Khusanov - just missed the top 10 with a 1300% increase to £29.7m.

Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen is up 320% to £35.7m, while Ballon d'Or dark horse Raphinha has jumped £25.6m (60%) to £68m total.

Liam Delap. Remember him? The striker who couldn't get a game at Man City? He's now worth £29.7m at Ipswich after a 337.5% increase.

God. This market is insane.

Looking at these numbers makes me wonder what clubs are actually paying for these players behind closed doors. Because if Yamal is truly worth £153m, I guarantee Barca's release clause is nowhere near high enough.

The scariest part? Most of these players haven't even hit their prime yet.
