Raducanu's LA Escape After Vodafone Shows Her the Door

Woke up this morning to the news that Emma Raducanu got kicked to the curb by Vodafone. Ouch. But honestly? Girl's living her best life anyway, hiking through LA's mountains while the rest of us are stuck in our cubicles wondering if that leftover sandwich from Tuesday is still edible.

I've been following Emma's career since that jaw-dropping US Open win in 2021. Remember that? I was at my cousin's wedding reception, sneaking peeks at the match on my phone under the table. Nearly spilled champagne all over my $400 rental dress when she won. Worth it.

£3 Million... GONE

Let's talk cash. The 22-year-old British tennis darling was reportedly raking in £3 million yearly from Vodafone before they pulled teh plug. My mortgage cried just typing that number.

According to the rumor mill, the partnership that began back in 2021 fizzled because Raducanu was asking for too much money. Listen. When you've got Nike, Dior, Tiffany, and Wilson already stuffing your pockets with approximately £9 million annually, maybe Vodafone figured you weren't exactly hurting for cash?

What's a Girl to Do After Losing Millions? Head to California, Obviously

Instead of moping around, Raducanu jetted off to Los Angeles for some serious R&R. And I mean SERIOUS. Her Instagram looked like one of those "live your best life" vision boards my therapist keeps telling me to make.

Girl had courtside seats at a Lakers game. COURTSIDE.

She posted pics lounging by a pool that was bigger than my entire apartment. The kind of pool that makes you question all your life choices. Why didn't I become a professional athlete again? Oh right, because I get winded walking up a flight of stairs.

Those Santa Monica Hikes Aren't Just for Show

Between fancy dinners and mansion-sitting, Raducanu kept up her fitness with hikes through the Santa Monica mountains. "Going to miss my hikes," she posted alongside views that made my daily walk to the subway look like a trek through a dystopian wasteland.

I tried hiking once in 2019. Spent $140 on "proper" hiking boots that gave me blisters the size of quarters. Never again.

From Stalker Nightmare to LA Dream

This getaway comes after a genuinely terrifying incident at the Dubai Open. Some creep with "fixated" behavior targeted her during a match against Karolina Muchova. Poor Emma. After spotting him in the crowd, she literally hid behind the umpire's chair in tears until security removed him.

The guy's since been detained, banned from WTA events, and slapped with a restraining order.

If I were her, I'd need more than a vacation after that... maybe a complete identity change and a remote island somewhere.

Back to Clay (Not the Fun Pottery Kind)

The vacation vibes won't last forever. Raducanu skipped representing Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup to take this break, but she'll be back on court for the Madrid Open starting April 22nd.

Her last tournament appearance was a pretty impressive run to the quarter-finals at the Miami Open before losing to world No3 Jessica Pegula. Not too shabby for someone ranked 47th.

And she did this just weeks after that stalker situation AND after suddenly splitting from coach Vlado Platenik following just one match together. My longest relationship this year has been with my food delivery app, so who am I to judge?

The Endorsement Game

While in LA, Emma still managed to squeeze in some promo work for property company Luxury Collective and Out Of The Blue Pools. Girl's gotta hustle.

Even with the Vodafone deal dead, she's still making more money than I'll see in several lifetimes. Does that make me jealous? A little. But also... good for her.

At 22, I was eating ramen noodles for dinner and considering selling plasma for extra cash.

The tennis world is brutal. One minute you're on top, the next you're fighting your way back from injuries and watching your ranking drop. Emma's had her share of struggles since that 2021 breakthrough.

But from the looks of those LA pics? She's doing just fine.
